Good stuff. One of the unfortunate realities of publishing/writing is that whether self or large book publisher published, marketing and promoting is everything…in fact it’s standard in book proposals to submit marketing plans which are, in turn, a major determinant of getting published.
Sadly, those of us who write because…well, we love it, and maybe good at it, may not have the desire, or skill to spend all that time selling and promoting. That’s just a reality.
A few of my self published books have made serious money without doing the things you talk about — perhaps they are the exceptions. And most of my McGraw-Hill published books have also mad everyone money without any major promotion. So, it IS possible to do things without spending more time promoting than writing. Rare, perhaps. But it does take a strategy.
