One of the things I’ve found is there are two kinds of abuse, the obvious yelling and swearing and in your face stuff, plus the more subtle abuse, which is just as damaging over time.

It’s important to help people identify WHEN they are being abused, so they can a) become aware that it may be damaging without them knowing and b) so they can take action.

Sadly most of us, at some point, ARE verbally abusive, perhaps by habit. It’s hard to be perfect, so it also helps to know what kinds of subtle verbal abuse we are putting out, even if it’s unintentional.

I’ve just made available free of charge our Learnbytes guide, Identifying Subtle Verbal Abuse In Your Life to Medium readers, to help people on both sides of the equation.
