Over 25 years in business, I never used a formal contract except if the client required one, and then, I’d have them draft it, and edit if necessary.

I used letters of understanding mapping out each party’s responsibilities to make the training/project/consultation work for the client.

Never once in 25 years had a problem from the lack of a formal contract.
