There are really two ways of delivering advice. One involves a one up, one down approach, which means that the person giving the “advice” is putting themself forward as one up, and the recipient “one down”, and it’s that characteristic that can make it abusive.
The other approach is as a collaboration of relative equals, though with differences in abilities in specific areas, where the advice is more collaborative and doesn’t stress one person is “better”.
